The story behind the property
Russell has over 30 years of experience with the keeping of Native bees.
After starting with honey bees his interest in native bees grew rapidly after Tim Heard’s press release in the local newspaper in the late 80’s. After 30 years, our native bee business has grown to be one of the largest collections in Australia.
Russell and Janine keep 200 colonies of honeybees and many hundreds of colonies of Native bees.
Additionally at the site you will see many staghorns and elkhorns as well as a good established garden setup.
There are working native bees around the yard as well as a construction shed for making native bee boxes.
You will learn the ins and outs of keeping Native bees in your garden to aid in pollination.
There will be a chance to see working hives and ask questions about the suitability of using them.
This can be a stand alone information session and visit as well as an add on for those who can attend the Connect and Learn event earlier in the month.
Water bottle, closed shoes, hat and sunscreen.
Light afternoon tea will be provided.
